News Digest: U.S. Lawmakers Demand EU Clarify Big Tech Regulations

News Digest:
U.S. House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan has urged EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera to clarify enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act, arguing they unfairly target American companies. His request follows a memorandum from U.S. President Donald Trump warning of scrutiny over EU regulations affecting U.S. tech firms like Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, and Meta.
In a letter co-signed by Scott Fitzgerald, Jordan criticized the DMA’s heavy fines—up to 10% of global revenue—as a “European tax on American companies” and a move to enforce EU standards globally. The lawmakers also warned that some DMA provisions could benefit China while stifling U.S. innovation.
Jordan and Fitzgerald demanded a briefing from Ribera by March 10. The European Commission has denied targeting U.S. firms, with Ribera stating that the EU will not amend laws already approved by lawmakers.
