Hedge funds, on average, gained 2.89% in July, according to the Barclay Hedge Fund Index, with the bulk of the rebound following a testing second quarter linked to a surge in global equities.

For the first seven months of this year, hedge funds delivered a negative return of 6.95%, but outperformed the S&P 500 Total Return Index that was down 12.58% for the same period.
