News Digest: Private equity secondaries deal volume tops $130bn

The volume of private equity secondaries transactions swelled by 137% in 2021, to $133.2bn, with pensions, endowments and other institutional investors tapping the market aggressively for portfolio rebalancing, according to data compiled by broker Setter Capital.

 

Takeaway:

In order to make their PE holdings better manageable, and enhance returns, many limited partners in buyout funds are slashing the number of general partner relationships and using secondaries market to divest LP interests in the funds being discarded.
